In about a month, the aroma of roasting turkeys and simmering gravy will be wafting out of the Riverside Community Church kitchen. Our interfaith community will be preparing the annual community-wide free Thanksgiving dinner, a labor of love and devotion from our local GEM (Gorge Ecumenical Ministry) churches for eight years. The kitchen will again be under the direction of Chef James Holloway. Here’s how you can help. We need volunteers in the week before Thanksgiving and on Thanksgiving Day for food preparation, food packaging, meal delivery, hospitality (set up, clean up, and serving), and food procurement. Volunteers are asked to sign up before November 6 and can do so by contacting the volunteer coordinator, Lisa Matthisen, at 541-645-4184. Please indicate your area of interest when you reach out. MCUUF’s Dan Ball will be in charge of packaging meals for delivery to folks in need. You can check in with Dan at 541-969-8873 or at [email protected] to help with meal packaging.  All MCUUF folks and their families are also invited to join in and dine on Thanksgiving Day. Dinner is served from Noon to 2 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 23.  All are welcome: singles, families, groups of friends, and those of all ages. The menu will include turkey, stuffing, mashed potatoes with gravy, local squash, veggies, dinner rolls, and, of course, pie.
