Tuesday, January 28th, 7 pm to 8:30 pm at the Rockford Grange – Downstairs
At our first session last Tuesday evening on the Democratic Process (5th UU Principle), we shared stories of our lived experiences with democracy. We examined the religious roots of American Democracy (thank you, Rev. Barbara Prose), the path to elected office (thank you, Mayor Paul Blackburn), and a view of American political democracy from a recent arrival from Canada who became campaign manager for a local political candidate (thank you, Christy Deere). After sharing personal stories in small group sessions, our assignment was to write – in 100 words or less – why the democratic process is important to me (suitable for posting on social media or in a letter to the editor….). Here are some quotes:
“…it means my views count, all people’s views count,
and I have the opportunity to make a difference….”“…it asks each individual to grow in their capacity to
understand and participate in the decision….”

We will continue our conversation about the democratic process on Tuesday, January 28th, 7:00 – 8:30 pm, as we explore how the democratic process lives in, enlivens, and informs local congregations, and our own Fellowship. For more information, contact Dick Withers, president AT mcuuf.org.
