Why does it feel so revivifying and liberating to write poetry? Why does sharing poetry in a safe, encouraging space feel so nourishing and cultivate deep belonging?
It’s because poetry is a language of the soul. And the light of the soul needs to be heard and seen. Witnessing and expressing the light of the soul is the basis for satisfying connection. And few spaces in our modern world offer permission for soul expression. We are hungry for it.
Most of us feel deeply malnourished in this essential human need. This weekly group will be a response to that inner call, a space of permission for the authentic life-force within to express itself.
The way I see it, to create a soulful writing space, the environment needs to embrace our wholeness—our bravery and our fear, our confidence and our insecurity, our light and our shadow, our foolishness and our brilliance.
That said, come as you are. People new to poetry as well as those who have been writing poetry for years are equally welcome. All of you is welcome as we explore together the essential, necessary, brave joy of giving our soul more space to express its endless beauty.
We will meet for 1 hour every Sunday at the Rockford Grange after UU services
for 5 weeks. (12-1 pm downstairs, May 4, May 11, May 18, June 1, and June 15th)
Up to 15 people
$30 per person
Hosted by local poet and author, Chelan Harkin
