As Unitarian Universalists, the flaming chalice is our sacred fire. Ancient peoples revered fire – in the form of the sun, the hearth where their food was cooked and their homes heated; and with candles and bonfires. Some worshipped fire as a deity and charged attendants with the duty of insuring that fires burning in the temple never went out. What in our lives today is like a flame that burns eternal? We’ll explore our relationship with sacred fire this morning.
