What is a Community

Sunday, December 15 at 10 am. You might think of your friends and neighbors, a feeling of fellowship, sharing common attitudes, interests, and goals. From an ecological perspective, a community is a group of interdependent organisms growing or living together in a specified habitat. This past summer, a few of us had the wonderful opportunity to travel to Botswana in southern Africa for a wildlife safari. This trip allowed us to see many wildlife and several ecosystem types in the Okavango Delta and Kalahari Desert regions. In viewing the wildlife, which we call herds, packs, flocks, schools, gaggles, and swarms, we began to see how these communities work together, take care of their young, and feed each other. So, we asked ourselves during this travel, and I ask you…what is the definition of a community, and how is having a community vital for us to survive and thrive? This service will be a hybrid, with Dan Ball as celebrant and speaker. Come join us together at the Rockford Grange, or via Zoom.
