On the White House’s website there is a clock counting down. It is counting down the days, hours, minutes and seconds until America’s 250th birthday. On this Sunday, July 6, two days after celebrating our 249th birthday, we will explore what it means to be an American. Inspired by the Pulitzer prize winning journalist Juan Antonio Vargas, who wrote and recently re-released Dear America, Notes of an Undocumented Citizen, I will do my best to speak clearly and plainly about race, immigration and identity – intersecting issues that affect all Americans from all backgrounds, determining who we will become as a nation.  

I hope to see you in our historic grange on Sunday, July 6, to celebrate this birthday together. Please bring your families and friends.
