How do Unitarian Universalists do theology?

As happy heretics, that is people who choose what to believe and what not to believe, rather than accept what creeds and doctrines decree, we encourage each other to think for ourselves.

While we rightly relish our freedoms, we are also responsible for finding trustworthy tools and materials to answer the five big questions that every religious tradition answers: what is divinity?, what does it mean to be human?, what is the relationship between the human and the divine?, why are we alive?, how are we supposed to live?

As inheritors of and participants in a liberal religious tradition that some have called a “do-it-yourself tradition,” it is incumbent upon each one of us to find our own answers to these questions.

How will you do theology in the new year?

I invite you to begin building or remodeling our own theology, to share what you believe with other fellowship members and friends, so that together, we can strengthen our capacity to contribute to the common good.

I look forward to seeing you on Sunday, January 4!

With love beyond belief, Barbara
